We are currently looking for a Tax Accounting Manager / Tax Controller to join Umicore's tax team in Brussels, Belgium. In this role you will strengthen the Global Tax Reporting and Direct Tax Compliance function by overseeing over 100 legal entities worldwide. As Tax Accountant you play a key role in driving process improvements and implementing the Tax Control Framework at Umicore, reporting to the Income Tax Compliance and Reporting Director.

What You Will Be Doing 

Responsibilities:

  • Management, digitization and value-added leveraging of the IAS12 Reporting Process: Support the regular  IAS12 reporting cycle with entity level reviews and the preparation of the consolidated ETR reconciliation, deferred tax balances and key cash tax metrics. Further the continuous improvement and digitization of the IAS12 process, including Pillar 2. Umicore has already implemented functionalities of Long View. One of the objectives of the Tax Controller is to enhance the tool's capabilities through close collaboration with our regional tax leaders, the  IS and GBS departments, the BU finance leaders, and external advisers focusing on areas such as automation, cash tax sensitivity modeling and forecasting, interim reporting, and CFC projections, among others.
  • Training and Expertise: train global users in Umicore's tools and processes related to Tax Reporting and Direct Tax. Act as a subject matter expert and primary contact for country users.
  • Implementation of Tax Control Framework: Support the implementation of the Tax Control Framework at Umicore by providing training to various stakeholders and ensuring that controls are met.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously identify tax process improvements and value-added activities for Umicore, such as identifying cash tax saving opportunities.
  • Withholding taxes: define withholding tax compliance and planning guidance and ensure the accuracy of all material royalty, interest, dividend, and service flows
  • Income Tax Compliance: Support change management towards the rollout of a worldwide income tax compliance partner for income tax compliance (CIT/WHTs and other direct tax returns). Ensure visibility and control over the compliance process.
  • Automation Opportunities: Identify automation opportunities for key corporate income tax accounting, reporting, and compliance processes, and conduct gap analyses.

Who We Are Looking For

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of tax accounting or direct tax experience in a Big-4 firm or an in-house role (regional or corporate level)
  • Accounting Degree (CPA/MBA/MS preferred)
  • Proficiency in IAS 12 (IFRS) or ASC740 (USGAAP)
  • User proficiency in OTP, CorpTax, Longview, or similar best-practice international tax reporting tools is desired
  • Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Self-Starter with demonstrated excellent collaborative problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong change management skills and process orientation with a structured, yet flexible approach
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills. A fast learner who can work independently as an informal leader and team player.
  • Strong bandwidth and attention to detail; hands-on approach.
  • Strong business orientation with a proven track record as an effective business partner.
